Environmental Improvement

Bronze Environmental Award for Armstrong Watson

Armstrong Watson has been officially recognised by Cumbria Business Environment Network (CBEN), for awareness and commitment towards environmental improvement.  David Foster, an Environmental Auditor from CREA commented on Armstrong Watson's environmental progress to date;

“Since introducing their Future Vision programme, Armstrong Watson has made significant progress in reducing their impacts on the environment.  The Partners made a significant decision to take action, by firstly appointing an Environmental Co-ordinator to implement their objectives.  This commitment, alongside financial availability has blossomed from the Partners enthusiasm and dedication.  This has further developed through the introduction of volunteer Environmental Champions at each of the sixteen offices across the North, in order to implement current and future challenges.

The decision to reduce energy, emissions and waste, as well as use alternative supplies, are thoroughly researched and analysed to assess the benefits and impacts on the environment before implementing changes.  Through these actions, Armstrong Watson is becoming a leading example in the financial profession market, demonstrating what can be achieved through a commitment to make the environment a better place today, and for the ''Future Vision''.

Armstrong Watson has implemented a number of policies that demonstrate a commitment towards reducing their environmental impacts as a business.

  • The introduction of a 100% recycled copier paper and letterhead.
  • A commitment to purchase; printers with double-sided printing facilities, energy efficient lighting, as well as appliances with high European Union Energy ratings going forward.
  • An agreed office temperature ranging from 20-23 degrees, with switching off campaigns of equipment and lighting now in place.
  • A standard power save feature across all computer users.
  • A standard auto signature to encourage paper reduction.
  • A commitment to ensure paper and waste recycling is functional in all offices by the end of 2008.

There is much more to come from the project, and this is only the beginning - with future plans for a 'green' stationery catalogue, a 'bag for life', as well as tackling the impacts of transport.

Armstrong Watson believes that the success of Future Vision lies with each and every one of their staff, and for this reason the Future Team has launched an intranet site dedicated to their Future Vision project.  This enables Armstrong Watson to communicate to staff the ways they can help and be involved, as well as report on progression, goals and incentives for the future.
